Tamil Nadu CEOs to participate in PM’s digital India event

CHENNAI: Many CEOs of IT firms in Tamil Nadu will take part in the 'Digital India Week' celebrations to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Indira Gandhi Stadium in New Delhi on Wednesday.
Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) Chennai director, Sanjay Tyagi said some 300 CEOs in the state had been sent invitations to participate in the event and about 10 have confirmed their participation. Digital India is an initiative of the department of electronics and information technology, aimed at transforming India into a digitally empowered society and knowledge economy. STPI is the nodal agency for organizing the one-week celebration across the country. The agency will organize state-wide awareness programmes at their sub centres and registered IT and ITES companies on July 5 and 6 to mark the event. Tyagi said 100 nodal officers had been nominated by IT firms to create an awareness on the digital India initiative. Moreover, 110 IT firms in the state would do live webcast of Prime Minister's event on July 1.
Digital India week seeks to inform, educate and engage citizens through organization of events at large number of digital points of presence like post offices, industries, schools, gram panchayats and connect all netizens through digital media campaigns and events so that vision, services and benefits of the programmes could be conveyed to the masses. This will help popularise and expand the reach of existing e-services, plan and launch new services as well as educate citizens on functional digital literacy, cyber security, cyber hygiene and ensure better utilization of digital infrastructure.
