Akhilesh’s ambitious I-T city project misses 240-day deadline to begin work
For these proposed I-T parks, the government would give land on lease basis for 30 years to STPI

Even as the Akhilesh Yadav government completes its three years in power on March 15, work on one of its most ambitious projects, Information Technology city to be constructed over 100 acre in Lucknow, is yet to kick off. It has been over nine months since the agreement was signed with investment company of HCL and over five months since Akhilesh laid the foundation stone at the Chak Ganjaria farm.
As per the agreement, the developer was to start the construction work within 240 days of signing the concession agreement with the government and sources in the government inform that even that deadline finished early this month.
“The representatives of the company have been called to Lucknow on March 16 to know about the progress as the Cabinet had already approved the detailed project report and the work should have started by now,” said a senior officer.

The Rs 1,500-crore IT city project, with the concept of “walk to work”, is to be developed on Lucknow-Sultanpur Road. Though the project is divided into two phases of five years each, the developer had promised to complete one part of the first phase and try to make it operational in three years. HCL enterprises was the sole bidder for the project with which the government signed an agreement instead if going for re-tender. The developer is to undertake construction of basic infrastructure such as internal roads, sewage, drainage, water and electricity supply, laying of optical fibre for setting up of I-T units as well as establishing skill development centre. “The work shall start soon.

We are in touch with representatives of the company,” said Jivesh Nandan, Principal Secretary, state I-T department.
